I’m afraid of the dentist – what should I do?

It’s completely normal to be afraid of the dentist – many people feel the same way. Here are some tips that can help reduce your anxiety:

  1. Find an empathetic dentist
Choose someone who is patient, understanding, and recommended by other anxious patients. The first impression already makes a big difference. Ideally, your first visit should focus only on discussing the treatment plan, getting to know each other, and building trust.
  2. Communicate openly
Tell your dentist that you’re nervous. This way they can pay extra attention to you and help ease your tension (for example, by working more slowly and explaining each step).
  3. Practice breathing exercises
Slow, deep breathing can help calm your body and reduce anxiety.
  4. Bring music or headphones
If possible, listen to calming music during the treatment – it can distract you. At Evidental, you can listen to soothing music during your visit, which helps you relax and reduces fear.
  5. Go with a companion
Having a friend or family member with you can make you feel less alone.
  6. Start small
Don’t begin with a tooth extraction or a large filling. Book a simple check-up first to get used to the environment.
  7. Ask for sedation if necessary
There are options in addition to local anesthesia, such as mild sedatives or, if indicated, general anesthesia. If needed, an anesthesiologist is available at our clinic, but this always requires prior arrangement.

At Evidental, we do everything we can to ease dental anxiety with a trust-based atmosphere, a patient-centered approach, and plenty of understanding and patience.
